Free Sailing

Free Community Sailing will start July 8, 2020 with a free BBQ!

Thank you for a great 2019 Free Sailing Season! Approximately 270 people participated throughout the five weeks of free sailing offered. See you in 2020!

2020 Dates:
July 8 – August 5, 4:30-6:30 pm

The Conanicut Island Sailing Foundation has provided the Jamestown Community with an opportunity to get out on the water and learn some sailing basics for more than a decade. Free Sailing takes place on Wednesday evenings from 4:30-6:30 from the Fort Getty Boat Ramp. No prior experience is needed. There is an instructor on each sailboat (mandatory).

Free Sailing CISF

Free Sailing will start July 10, 2019, with a kick off BBQ. We will have the grill fired up, so come down, have some food, and see what Free Sailing and CISF are all about! (This is a free event!)

Free Sailing will take place every Wednesday for five weeks. August 7 will be the last night of Free Sailing for the 2019 season.

Free Sailing will be canceled if there are thunderstorms and/or heavy rain. If thunderstorms are imminent, we will cancel. There are no make-up free sailing days. Cancellations will be posted on our Facebook page:

Waivers must be signed for each person who goes sailing. All who participate must be able to swim. Kids must be 5 years old or older to participate.

This program is open to all – ages 5- 105!

There can be a wait to go sailing.

Sailing times are dependent on the number of people waiting. 20 minutes is our target for the shortest amount of time each person will go sailing for.

What to Bring

If you have a life jacket, please bring one. CISF has life jackets on site for use if you do not have one.

Please be prepared to get wet. Launching (getting started sailing) requires getting your feet wet to get out onto the boats. Having a towel and maybe even a change of clothes is always nice for after sailing.

It is always cooler on the water. Having a sweatshirt or jacket is smart. Sailing cold is no fun! (The water isn’t usually warm until late July.)
