A cornerstone of CISF’s mission is to further engage and connect communities with the joy and sport of sailing. Learn more about these opportunities below!
FREE COMMUNITY SAILING
The Conanicut Island Sailing Foundation has provided the Jamestown Community with an opportunity to get out on the water and learn some sailing basics for more than a decade. Free Sailing takes place on Wednesday evenings from 4:30-6:30 from the Fort Getty Boat Ramp. No prior experience is needed. There is an instructor on each sailboat (mandatory).
Free Sailing will start back up in summer July 5, 2023.
Free Sailing takes place every Wednesday for six weeks starting July 5 and ending August 9.
Free Sailing will be cancelled if there are thunderstorms and/or heavy rain. If thunderstorms are imminent, we will cancel. There are no make-up free sailing days. Cancellations will be posted on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/CISFSailing/
Waivers must be signed for each person who goes sailing. (This happens on site.) All who participate must be able to swim. Kids must be 5 years old or older to participate.
This program is open to all – ages 5- 105!
There can be a wait to go sailing. Sailing times are dependent on the number of people waiting. 20 minutes is our target for the shortest amount of time each person will go sailing for.
WHAT TO BRING
If you have a life jacket, please bring one. CISF has life jackets on-site for use if you do not have one.
Please be prepared to get wet. Launching (getting started sailing) from the beach requires getting your feet wet to get onto the boats. Having a towel and maybe even a change of clothes is always nice for after sailing.
It is always cooler on the water. Having a sweatshirt or jacket is smart. Sailing cold is no fun! (The water isn’t usually warm until late July.)
Sonar Sailing
In addition to our fleet of Hobies and and smaller dinghies, CISF has purchased a 23 foot Sonar to offer greater and varied sailing opportunities for our community.
Sonar keelboats are one-design, high-performance racing boats, but are just as easily comfortable daysailors. Easily holding 3 to 5 people, our Sonar is a perfect vessel to learn the basics of sailing and navigation, as well as more serious racing and tactics. Moored in East Ferry, lessons will be offered this upcoming summer, where new and experienced sailors alike can explore Narragansett Bay!
ADULT & GROUP SAILING LESSONS
CISF is thrilled to offer sailing opportunities to more people!
Sailing lessons for all levels ranging from beginner to racing. All lessons are on a Sonar (a 23 ft keelboat).
Private Sailing Lessons, $100
A two-hour private sailing lesson on CISF’s Sonar for one person. Up to 2 additional people can be added for $10/person/hour.
