Great Getty Scavenger Hunt

May 4th, 10 AM – 1 PM

Join us on Saturday, May 4th for an epic adventure searching for hidden nature art and treasures all around Fort Getty! Using clues and orienteering, participants will search for creations from our community that celebrate our coastal environment. Participants in the hunt will be given clues and directions to find the hidden treasures. There will be a special prize for anyone who finds all the creations! After the event the art will be left out hidden for two weeks so anyone who can’t make it that day will still have a chance to participate.

 

Want to donate your art?

Artists of all levels and ages are welcome and encouraged to participate by donating your art to the hunt! The only requirement is that your art has some connection to the ocean or nature! Drawing, painting, poetry, short stories, sculpture, photography, collage, or anything you can dream of are all welcome! Think of this as a gift to nature, you will not get your item back and if you do it likely will not be in perfect condition.*

 Two options to submit:  

• Drop off your art at the CISF tent between noon and 5 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays
• Email your art to fiona@jamestownsailing.org

*Note: art will be hidden outside. We will have some weatherproofing containers, however, if you have a unique piece of art that you treasure, we would suggest printing a picture of it, or donating a piece you are ok with exposing to the elements. We will have a mini gallery inside of our tent with any pieces that cannot risk being outside only on the day of the event. If you would like to share an original piece of art in safer conditions for the day of the event, email Fiona. 

 

Don’t know what to make?

Here are a few ideas of simple natural creations to make*:

• Painted rocks 
• Ornaments made with natural materials or clay
• Sculptures using natural air dry clay (recipe linked here)

 

*Remember that these will be out in the open for two weeks, so something durable and/or natural is best. We want to make sure that we do not hide anything that could end up on the land or in the bay as pollution.
