Communications:
Please check your spam folders for communication for CISF about camp. We have found that our communications often go into spam. We have taken steps to try and solve this problem, but please check your spam folders periodically and especially as your camp week approaches.

2021 Guidelines
June 1 – the State released this guidance about mask wearing:
“Starting June 2, vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals will no longer be required to wear masks outdoors in Rhode Island. However, unvaccinated individuals are still strongly encouraged to wear masks in crowded outdoor settings or during activities that involve sustained close contact (less than 6 feet apart for more than 15 minutes over a 24-hour period) with other people who are not fully vaccinated.
The removal of this outdoor masking requirement applies to all ages and settings, including outdoor live performances, youth sports and summer camps.”
June 3, 2021: Sea Adventure Summer Camp COVID Guidelines:
– The State has indicated pods of no more than 26. We will have pods well shy of 26.
– Each pod will have a specific separate drop off and pick up location – area A or B. This will be communicated in the email that you receive 1-2 weeks before camp starts.
– Pods will have specific home bases for the week
– Each pod will use the same equipment daily – nets, markers, etc….
– Each pod will have a designated port-o-potty that is cleaned thoroughly weekly and wiped down daily. (Port-o-potties are closed to the general public and only open to camp pods. Each unit is marked on the door for a specific pod.)
– Children will likely sail with the same children within their pod
– As per the latest guidance about masks, Instructors who are vaccinated will not wear a mask. Children who are vaccinated will also not need to wear a mask. Unvaccinated children will be asked to wear a mask unless they are distanced, outside. For example, unvaccinated individuals should wear a mask: in a “crowded outdoor settings or during activities that involve sustained close contact (less than 6 feet apart for more than 15 minutes over a 24-hour period)”. HOWEVER, children will not wear a mask when sailing as that would create a different, and potentially even more dangerous risk.
– Mask wearing requirements are subject to change based on each pod and any children who are not or cannot be vaccinated for health reasons. Any parents who have unvaccinated children with compromised immune systems who are concerned about a lack of mask wearing are asked to contact Meg Myles to discuss the situation. cisfsailing@gmail.com
– Parents are asked to stay in their cars at drop off and pick up
– Children will be asked to wash their hands upon arrival, before leaving at the end of the day, and frequently during the day.
– Vaccinated children are required to show proof of vaccination before the start of camp. Proof may be a photo of the vaccination card email to Katie at: office@jamestownsailing.org
Vaccinated is defined as 14 days after receiving both shots.

Daily Health Screening Form for Campers – this will be required each day. The State is requiring daily health screening. While we will not be taking temperatures, we are required to screen. This may be an annoyance to parents, but it is mandatory. Children may not get out of their cars until this is completed.
– Children will be asked to have a mask or buff to be worn when they leave their groups, or pods to use the bathroom or things of that nature. Face coverings will not be required on the water as that is a safety hazard in its’ own right. CISF will have soft, comfortable buffs for sale that are customized for JSAC.
– Hand washing will be a HUGE part of the every day of camp life. We will have at least one, and maybe 2 outdoor sinks. Children will be asked to wash their hands upon arrival and before the go home amongst many other times during the day.
6/5 Jamestown Sea Adventure Camp & COVID-19 Update
Camp is on this summer! We are making all necessary preparations, as well as creating guidelines and protocols that are specific to State guidelines this summer and COVID-19. It will be fun, but it will be different from past years. Please continue to check this webpage for details.
Emails were sent this weekend to those affected by our schedule changes which are as follows:
• Explorers (ages 4-6) cancelled this summer.
• July 6-10 Marine Adventurers (ages 6-8) – afternoon group cancelled
• July 27-31 – ages 8-10 – afternoon group is cancelled and all registered are moved to the morning session (9-12:30)
• August 17-21 – Marine Adventurers group is rescheduled to the following week August 24-28. (Ages 8-10 & 11-16 are still scheduled for the week of August 17-21)
If you are registered for camp but will NOT be able to attend, please let Meg Myles know by June 8 if possible. Because we have reduced the number of children in each week, our waiting lists are long.
Please reach out to Meg Myles if have any concerns, questions, or you would like a child added to a waiting list. Meg can be reached at CISFSailing@gmail.com or 401-855-6643.
Jamestown Sea Adventure Camp is moving ahead with camp for Marine Adventurers (ages 6-8), ages 8-10, and 11-16. We continue to adjust our planning, guidelines, and policies to be in line with State Camp guidelines. There will be schedule changes and numbers of children will be lower from past years. There will not be any all-camp activities and children will be organized into small groups ahead of the start of camp. Drop off and pick up times will also be staggered. Additionally, all RI Travel and Executive orders need to be followed for anyone coming from COVID-19 hot spots.
ACTION ITEM:
At this time, we ask that if your child is registered for camp but is unable to attend please contact Meg Myles. If your child is registered, but you are on unsure if you will send your child to camp, please let Meg know by June 8 at the latest so that we can make space for those who have been affected by our schedule changes or are on waiting lists.
5/29:
In order to keep camp groups separated, there may be staggered drop off and pick up times. In order to organize children in groups that they will enjoy, please fill out a group request form for each child. We will do our best to accommodate everyone, but I am 100% sure we will not be perfect. If you do not have any preferences, no need to fill out a form. Thank you! Here is a link to the request form (it is a google form).
RI State COVID-19 Alerts & Guidance: https://health.ri.gov/covid/#alerts
5/23/20: Guidelines were published Thursday night, May 21. If interested, you can find them here under ‘Child Care and Youth Activities’. We are going ahead with camp for the Marine Adventurer (ages 6-8), ages 8-10, and ages 11-16.
There will be modifications to camp and to the schedule as follows:
– Lower numbers of children in camp each week. We are keeping numbers lower than the guidelines to keep things manageable and to keep the number of children on each boat low. State guidelines call for stable groups of 15 or less. We are moving forward a bit more conservatively based on our staffing and number of children on each boat.
– Children will be put into pre-arranged small groups. Please contact Meg Myles if your child has a person or persons whom they want to be grouped with. We will do our best. CISFSailing@gmail.com
– Siblings: If you’d prefer your children to be in the same group, we can accommodate this by having the older child join the younger age group. Please contact Meg Myles to make this request. CISFSailing@gmail.com
– There may be staggered drop offs and pick ups. Times will be sent to you ahead of time via email. This is to help us keep the groups separated.
– Week of July 6-10: Cancelling the afternoon session of Marine Adventurers. I will be in touch with anyone registered in the afternoon session as we have room in the morning session, and my hope is to move all (if possible) to the morning session. We are cancelling afternoon programming so that we can do a deep clean and self-assess as to how we are doing managing children, cleaning, protocols, etc…
– Leadership Program: we will cancel weeks that are under-subscribed. I will be in touch with those who are affected & refunds provided
– July 27-31, Ages 8-10: Cancelling the afternoon session of 8-10 year olds. My hope is to move all registered for the afternoon to the morning. Again, I will be in touch with those who are affected & refunds provided.
– Marine Adventurers, August 17-21: In order to keep children and groups separated, we are adding a 9th week, August 24-28, and moving the 8/17-21 Marine Adventurers to this 9th week. We will contact all registered Marine Adventurer families.
– The Explorers age group (ages 4-6) is cancelled for the summer. Please contact Meg Myles to request a refund, have your payment credited to next year, or donate the payment to CISF. CISFSailing@gmail.com
– Daily health screenings will be mandatory. There will be a google form that needs to be filled out each morning. Temperature checks will happen for each child each morning as well.
– A health screen form will be emailed to you at least two weeks in advance of the start of camp. This is a daily health check that needs to be filled out for the 14 days preceding your child’s attendance of Jamestown Sea Adventure Camp.
– We would prefer parents to STAY in their cars during drop off and pick ups.
5/18/20: CISF continues to monitor and make plans for camp this summer. We are still awaiting State guidelines. Once those are published, we will move forward making decisions.
Protocols, guidelines, anticipated screening, camper behavior guidelines, and all general information will be posted on this page as it relates to Camp 2020 and COVID-19. We will be transparent with our plans and path forward.
Safety of our campers and staff is our highest priority. Thus, we anticipate a VERY conservative approach to holding camp this summer.
Below are some of what we anticipate putting into place this summer:
Campers will be placed in groups or ‘pods’ of 6, and those groups will remain the same all week.
Staggered drop off and pick up times to keep children from mixing
Health Assessment requirement before camp and during camp
Daily temperature checks of staff and campers is anticipated
Use of masks or buffs likely on land (not when sailing)
Groups of 3 on each boat when sailing
Campers must wash hands upon arrival, and often throughout the day
Installation of 1-2 outdoor sinks for easier hand washing
Boats and disinfection will take place in between uses by staff
Life Jackets – campers need their own life jackets and must bring them daily. If this is not possible, a life jacket will be assigned for the week. Disinfecting life jackets is a lengthy process that we cannot do in between uses.
Campers need to bring their own hand sanitizer
Sun shirts are highly recommended. Instructors will remind campers to re-apply sunscreen, but Instructors may not apply sunscreen to campers under any circumstances.
Cancellation of Ages 4-6, Explorers group, for the summer.
Anticipated schedule modifications
No all-camp group activities or games
Social distancing
As of 5/18/2020, we are hoping to start on time, June 29.
5/14/20 Communication to Parents:
I hope you are all staying healthy and safe during this trying time. We are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation. We are still busy making plans but few decisions. Guidelines for summer camps have as yet to be disclosed in RI, though just today the Governor said that her goal is for camps to start in a very scaled back format on June 29. We do anticipate continued social distancing and likely the use of masks.
